Agco Power Core80: towards new standards

The Agco Power Core80 completes the first range of next-generation engines set to redefine standards in agricultural and industrial applications. The new eight-liter unit expands the range to cover a power range of up to 338 horsepower

At Bauma in Munich, Agco Power presented the new “Core80” engine, the third model in the “Core” family, completing a range that began with the six-cylinder “Core75” and expanded with the four-cylinder “Core50.”

With a displacement of eight liters, the new model is positioned at the top of AGCO Power’s offering, raising the bar in terms of performance, efficiency, and connectivity thanks to dedicated digital interface solutions. In terms of performance, the engine delivers a maximum power of 252 kilowatts (342 horsepower), delivered between 1,500 and 1,700 rpm, and a maximum torque of 1,680 Newton-meters (0.68 lb-ft), available from 1,200 rpm and maintained up to 1,400 rpm.

This performance leap, however, is not only due to the increased displacement, but also to the introduction of a new variable geometry turbocharger, which optimizes throttle response at low revs thanks to reduced turbo lag. The reduced geometric variation of the cylinder liners and the introduction of a variable geometry turbo have enabled AGCO Power to increase the performance of the new unit without impacting its overall dimensions, bringing them into line with those of the “Core75.”

The series’ modular approach also allows the “Core80” to benefit from a lighter structure, using 25 percent fewer components than previous-generation engines in the same category, facilitating its integration into off-road construction and agricultural machinery. Finally, it’s worth noting the significant upgrade in connectivity. The “Core80” is the first engine in the range to offer over-the-air connectivity, enabling remote updates, diagnostics, and monitoring, for simplified fleet management and greater long-term reliability. It will go into production by the end of 2025.
